PTFE gaskets are primarily made from Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene.

Gasket are mechanical components use to create seals at the point of connection between two pieces of equipment.

PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), commonly known by the brand name Teflon, is a highly versatile and widely used material for gaskets.

PTFE Teflon Gasket Properties :

  • PTFE is virtually chemically inert, meaning it resists almost all chemicals, including acids, bases, and solvents. This makes PTFE gaskets suitable for use in aggressive chemical environments.
  • PTFE can operate effectively in a wide temperature range, from -200°C to +260°C (-328°F to +500°F).
  • The non-stick properties of PTFE prevent substances from adhering to the gasket, making it easier to remove and replace.
  • PTFE is an excellent electrical insulator, making it useful in applications where electrical conductivity must be minimized.

 

 

 PTFE Teflon Gaskets Types : 

01. Virgin PTFE Gaskets

  • Material: 100% pure PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), with no fillers or additives.PTFE Teflon Gasket
  • Appearance :  White, opaque material with a smooth surface.
  • Virgin PTFE  Typically density around 2.16 g/cm³.
  • PTFE Melting Point  Approximately 327°C (621°F).
  • Virgin PTFE gaskets are generally suitable for applications with pressures up to approximately 55 bar (800 psi).
  • Highest chemical resistance and is suitable for the most demanding chemical applications.

 

02. Filled PTFE Gaskets PTFE Teflon Gasket

  • Contains fillers like glass, carbon, or graphite to improve mechanical strength, wear resistance, or thermal conductivity.
  • Filled PTFE gaskets generally offer higher pressure resistance than Virgin PTFE, with typical pressure resistance ranging from 80 bar (1160 psi) to 150 bar (2175 psi).

 

Composition and Types of Fillers :

  • Glass Fiber Filled PTFE: Increases compressive strength and wear resistance.
  • Carbon Filled PTFE: Enhances electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity, while also improving wear resistance.
  • Graphite Filled PTFE: Provides better thermal conductivity and improved lubricity.
  • Bronze Filled PTFE: Increases wear resistance and thermal conductivity.
  • Molybdenum Disulfide (MoSâ‚‚) Filled PTFE: Improves wear resistance and reduces friction.
  • Ceramic or Mineral Filled PTFE: Increases hardness and dimensional stability under high temperatures.

 

 Color Coding :

  • Glass Fiber Filled PTFE: Typically off-white or light beige.
  • Carbon Filled PTFE: Black.
  • Graphite Filled PTFE: Dark grey or black.
  • Bronze Filled PTFE: Brown or dark brown.
  • Molybdenum Disulfide (MoSâ‚‚) Filled PTFE: Grey.
  • Ceramic or Mineral Filled PTFE: White or light grey.

 

03. Expanded PTFE (ePTFE) Gaskets
