Electrostatic Hazard And PrecautionÂ
Static electricity is a silent killer.
Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within pr the surface of a material most dangerous chemical industry.
Astatic electric is created whenever two surfaces contact and separate and at least one of the surfaces has a high resistance to electrical current material / two dissimilar material.
Places where static charge generate :
- It can be generated in solids, liquids and gases.
- Transfer of chemical through pipelines.
- Drum / containers filling and emptying.
- Tanker loading / unloading.
- Tanks / Reactor / Hold vessel etc. During filling and descanting (splash operation).
Hazard of static Electricity :
The biggest hazard – Hidden hazard is static charge.
Fire
Explosion
Shock
If notice any earthing damage please report immediately.
Don’t start any of the operation mentioned above W/o proper earthing.
Do’s :
- Always use antistatic plastic bucket / Stainless Steel bucket with crocodile clamp.
- Use conductive/antistatic hose only for solvent handling.
- Use non-sparking tools in solvent line.
- Use wooden stick for de-chocking.
- Ensure double earthing and earthing joint is fixed properly.
- Ensure ‘J’ pipe and dip pipe type nozzle available in solvent discharge line.
- Follow loose solvent handling permit.
- During handling of flammable solid use antistatic liner bags.
- Do proper earthing.
- Use crocodile pins for portable container.
- Transfer if earthing continuity meter show green light.
